May 30, 2007 - The Last...

Today was quiet. Dad and I planted a small garden, actually only 3 tomato plants, but to me that is a garden. 30 minutes of digging, some watering, and that's about it. All in all it was a good day. Dad wasn't sick at all, and ate pretty well. Didn't notice any mood changes either.

I try to live in the moment while planning for the future. If you fret about things that might happen in the future, you'll turn back and realize you haven't lived, that you've just wasted your time. I asked my dad yesterday at the propane fueling place how long the 5 gallon propane tank will last. His quick response was that it'll last for about a year, based on my parents usage. Then his mood changed, he became visibly depressed. I wonder if he was thinking this will be the last time he'll be filling the propane tank. Will this be the last garden we plant? Will this be the last new episode of my favorite show? Will this be my last hair cut? What if it is the last X in our lives? Make sure it is the best last X ever.

Tomorrow my dad wants to go buy some new shoes and a new recliner tomorrow. Will this be the last pair of shoes? The last new piece of furniture? Let's make sure each and every day is the best day we've had, and make sure you tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.

Well, you could think of it as the last of something, or it could be the first of something in a new phase of your life. It might be a phase that is a bit more difficult than others, but it will still have its own joys and memories. It is good that you can all take time to appreciate each other.
